CLIMB IN Mognola

Located at 2000m in the upper Vallemaggia, you arrive in Fusio and continue to Alpe Vacarisc, from there you take a trail with an elevation gain of 500m and hike about 1h-1h30’ to the destination. Climbing takes place from late spring to early fall on an alpine terrain with exceptional rock. Overhangs, vertical walls and slab passages provide fun for all levels. The area offers 87 climbing routes distributed in 10 sectors and are the result of a meticulous bolting work started in 2018. The sectors are scattered along the trail from Lake Mognola to the ancient aqueduct carved into the rock and the exposition of most walls allows climbing even during the hottest summer days.

camp at 2000m

By the first climbing sectors there’s a bivouac area for climbers who intend to stay overnight. A code lock allows access to a container from which one can dispose of tents, mats, crashpads, a gas stove with utensils to cook and a battery powered by a solar panel to charge electronic devices. In the area there is also a fountain, a couple of tables, a grill and an ecological toilet. Everything is done through the payment of a free offering according to one’s equipment needs and one’s sensitivity and possibility in supporting this project.

explore the boulders

The presence of large boulders throughout the area from the lake to the old aqueduct also makes this area perfect for bouldering. A dozen of crashpads are already available at the Base Camp. The potential for further developing boulder climbing is still huge, and in the next few years there are plans to map most of the boulders that have been freed so far and create a digital guidebook like the one already created for sport climbing routes.
